Dust, pollen, and airborne pollutants

Rainfall is a natural turf cleanser, the cheapest solution! However, if you live in an area where there is less or no rainfall, you may spray it down to avoid dust and other small debris.

For slightly soiled areas, a simple mixture of lukewarm water with a 5% of home detergent can turn out well.

For the more heavily soiled area, use the aforementioned procedure first then sponge mop the area with 3% of the solution of household ammonia in lukewarm water. After completing this, rinse the area thoroughly.

Stains and other blemishes

The key to cleanliness is promptness. The quickly you clean a fresh stain, the time and efforts you’ll be able to save. It becomes very difficult to remove stubborn stains which dry up over a period of time. However, these solid stains can be removed thoroughly with a plastic table knife.

Following are the first group of cleaners that can be applied without any particular precautions.

  • “Simple Green” bio-friendly cleaner to be used as per the manufacturer’s instruction and guidance.
  • A three percent solution of ammonia diluted in water can be used for removing stubborn stains
  • Avoid using cleaners that contain caustic cleaners or highly acidic cleansers.
  • Rinse the affected area with cold water
  • Blot up unnecessary liquid
  • To reduce waterborne stains you can use a lukewarm solution of granular household for fine fabrics. This will handle the following stains:
  • Coffee
  • Cola
  • Dye
  • Ice Cream

  • Coffee
  • Urine

Pet waste

Albeit synthetic turf is a pet-friendly solution, and pet owners can rest assured that only a little additional maintenance is required to keep their lawns looking stunning.

To remove pet waste from grass, simple wait for it to dry, removing solid pet waste is the solution. If you are living in an area where rainfall is a rarity, hose down the area frequently in such a condition. This will clean the pet urine and keep the grass hygienic for the pets. Depending on the number of pets you own, enzyme neutralizers can effectively control odors. Wash the area thoroughly after this application.

Tree sap and chewing gum

Artificial turf is stain resistant which makes it easy to clean up spills and other accidents like dropping of candy or chewing gum. To remove the chewing safely from the grass you need to freeze it with an ice cube to make it easier to remove completely.

Fungus or mold spots

A 1 % mixture of hydrogen peroxide in water is good enough to treat the affected area with a soft sponge. After this, rinse it properly.

Periodic Brushing

In order to keep the grass in the finest possible condition, it is suggested to periodically brush the grass in accordance with the amount of ‘traffic’ is gets. Brushing the grass will keep the fibers upright for a longer time, augmenting the natural look of your lawn or restring its aesthetic look. “Cross brushing” is the way of doing it. This means using the brush against turf to fluff up the grass and avoid damage to the fibers.

The amount of traffic in an area will describe the appearance of the area. Brushing is always recommended, the more traffic, the more brushing your grass will require.

High traffic areas might include but are not limited to:

  • Multiple dogs
  • Paths in the lawn that are visited frequently

  • Remove sprinkler from the turf as it can leave mineral deposits on the turf, causing dioscoloration.
  • Avoid leaving a parked vehicle idling on the turf
